Letter: Cuts place poor deeper into poverty

Some opiners have taken issue with the attack on the estate tax cut to the 0.2 percent rich stating it’s their money. True and not the issue. That tax cut caused $26 billion a year decline in taxes to the government, a government that already doesn’t pay its bills. The current House budget proposed cuts of $5 trillion over 10 years, the majority of which will come from programs like Medicare, SNAP, Pell grants, all programs for those least able financially. This will drive 1 million more children into poverty and further challenge 15 million people who are already poor. It raises military spending.

This country should pay its bills, but not on the backs of the least able. Washington state gave out $30 billion in tax cuts to corporations while needing $4 billion to fund its schools.

Republicans are supporting the rich, attacking the poor. The 0.2 percent didn’t need a tax cut.
