OLYMPIA — A Pasco school nurse has been named Washington state classified school employee of the year.
Vickie Wright is the school nurse at Mark Twain Elementary. When she was hired by the Pasco School District 35 years ago, she was the only school nurse in the district.
When she was announced as the school employee of the year, she was credited with both the academic and personal success of students, and praised for her efforts to get kids vaccinated.
The eight other regional winners for classified school employee of the year were:
Leanne Rainwater, a secretary at University Elementary in Central Valley School District.
Pam Gamache, a para-educator at Adams Elementary in the Wapato School District.
Eddie Sawyer, who works in instructional technology for Vancouver Public Schools.
Donna Duke, who works in the GED and student re-engagement program at Gravity High School in Mason, Thurston, Lewis and Grays Harbor counties.
