Letter: Ways to deal with homelessness

Bill Barkley’s May 7 letter, “Sponsor jobs to mentor homeless,” was a well-thought-out attempt to surround the local problem of homelessness.

Vancouver should check with Salt Lake City about how they’ve provided jobs and found homes for the homeless, reducing the city’s annual costs from about $20 million to $8 million. They even had a fine-dining event for the homeless with linen tablecloths and music, to boot. Needless to say, the homeless people were surprised to be so well treated and respected.
