‘Whatever happened to Randolph Scott’

Song was tribute to Western-movie stars and also a complaint

We were watching some old Westerns on TV. A song I heard but can’t remember where I got it from had lyrics that went something like this: “Whatever happened to Randolph Scott riding the trail alone? Whatever happened to Gene and Rex, Roy and Tex, the Durango Kid?” I’m not sure of the exact name order but it went something like that.

You are remembering the Statler Brothers hit “Whatever Happened to Randolph Scott”? It was both a tribute to Western-movie stars and a complaint about the state of modern movies. Part of the chorus goes: “Whatever happened to Randolph Scott/Ridin’ the trail alone/Whatever happened to Gene and Tex/And Roy and Rex, the Durango kid/Oh whatever happened to Randolph Scott/His horse, plain as can be/Whatever happened to Randolph Scott/Has happened to the best of me.”

Could you tell me what has happened to “White Collar”? After being off the air for quite a while, there were two episodes that looked like they were going to wrap up the show but then it disappeared without an ending. Did I miss it? Occasionally, I find a rerun but I want to know how it ended!

The USA Network series had its final new telecast, called “Au Revoir,” in December. A Google search of “White Collar series finale” will yield recaps if you want to know the details. (I am trying not to spoil it for you here.) USA Network also has the finale on its website. You can also find it streaming on Amazon.com and iTunes. And the entire final season is now on DVD.

I just finished watching “The Killing” on Netflix. I was wondering, was that only a four-season series or are more coming?

There are no plans for more at this time. After three seasons on AMC, the series made a short fourth season for Netflix, which concluded the series.

Can you tell me when “Mountain Men” will be back?

The series begins its fourth season on the History channel on June 18.

Could you please tell us when Buddy — the “Cake Boss” — will be back on TLC? We read that it was renewed.

The show starring Buddy Valastro will be back, although I do not have an air date yet. According to TLC, it will first show overseas as part of its new distribution deal, then find its way onto TLC in the U.S.

Some time back (could be a couple of months), at the end of “The Young and the Restless,” it said “In memory of Beau.” I was wondering who he was. I only saw it one time, and I didn’t catch anything else.

Beau Kazer, who had played Brock Reynolds on the soap, died in December at the age of 63. While no cause of death was announced, he had reportedly been having health problems for two years.

On the show, Reynolds was the lawyer son of Katherine Chancellor (Jeanne Cooper, who died in 2013); despite their onscreen relationship (and a double-decade age difference), Cooper and Kazer at one time had an affair. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Kazer also played Bunny Willis on “General Hospital” and guest-starred on “Hart to Hart,” “B.J. and the Bear” and “Barnaby Jones.”

“The Big Bang Theory” handled the death of the woman who played Mrs. Wolowitz. I am wondering if “The Simpsons” ever did a tribute episode to Mrs. Krabappel. If so, I missed it.

After the death of Marcia Wallace, who had voiced Edna Krabappel, the series said goodbye twice. A chalkboard scene in an episode shortly after Wallace’s death had the single line, “We’ll really miss you Mrs. K.” The following March, an episode had Ned Flanders, who was married to Edna, wearing a black armband and reminiscing about her.
