Clark College athletics report 11/2

What happened this past week in Clark College athletics:

MEN’S SOCCER

Notable: Clark lost to Southwestern Oregon 3-0 in its regular-season finale, but still clinched the No. 1 playoff seed from the NWAC South and first-round bye in the NWAC playoffs.

Record: 9-5-2 overall, 8-3-1 NWAC South, first place. Ranked 5th in final coaches poll.

This week: Second round playoffs — winner of Tacoma/Edmonds vs. Clark, noon Saturday at McKenzie Stadium.

WOMEN’S SOCCER

Notable: Clark tied Lane 1-1 in its regular-season finale, to finish second in the NWAC South going into the NWAC playoffs.

Record: 12-1-4 overall, 9-0-3 NWAC South, second place. Ranked 6th in final coaches poll.

This week: First round playoffs — Treasure Valley at Clark, 2 p.m. Wednesday. Winner advances to play Highline, 4:30 p.m. Saturday at Starfire Stadium in Tukwila.

VOLLEYBALL

Notable: Clark won at Umpqua 3-0, and lost at Southwestern Oregon 3-0.

Record: 17-14 overall, 4-5 NWAC South (tied for 3rd place). Top four teams qualify for NWAC Championships, Nov. 19-22 at Tacoma.

This week: Mt. Hood at Clark, 6 p.m. Wednesday (final home match); Clark at Clackamas, 1 p.m. Saturday (regular-season finale).

CROSS COUNTRY

Notable: The Clark women won the Southern Region championship with their five runners all placing in the top 16. Melissa Starr was the top placer for Clark, coming in third. James Breen placed second overall for the Clark men, who were fourth as a team. Clark coach Bob Williams was named South Region women’s coach of the year.

Next meet: The NWAC Championship is Saturday, Nov. 14 at Lewisville Park in Battle Ground.
