SPOKANE — It looks like the curse of the one-term mayor is over in Spokane.

Mayor David Condon coasted to victory with 62 percent of the vote in Tuesday’s election. He’s the first Spokane mayor to win re-election since 1973, which is the year before Condon was born.

Condon defeated Shar Lichty, a political organizer who had never run for political office.

Condon’s re-election had seemed fairly routine after more prominent potential opponents said they wouldn’t run. But he ran into some trouble in recent weeks for his handling of problems in the police department.

Condon said Tuesday night that his victory proves there is no one-term curse on the office.
