PORTLAND — A sewage overflow in southwest Portland has increased bacteria in part of Oregon’s Willamette River.
KGW-TV reports that sewage overflowed from a manhole Sunday afternoon into a catch basin that drains into the Willamette River.
City of Portland Bureau of Economic Service’s Linc Mann says maintenance crews think about 1,000 gallons of sewage flowed into the river from a storm water pipe on its west bank.
Mann says people should avoid contact with the river in the area of the Waverly County Club through Monday afternoon.
