A man involved in a robbery, in which the victim was struck with a bicycle lock, was sentenced Wednesday to more than 2½ years in prison.

Kevin McCarter, 50, pleaded guilty in Clark County Superior Court to first-degree attempted robbery in connection with the Sept. 29 incident. He initially faced that charge and second-degree assault. However, the assault charge was dismissed, as well as a deadly weapon enhancement on the attempted robbery charge, in exchange for his guilty plea.

A co-defendant in the case, Dorothy Sayers, 26, also was sentenced earlier this month to 45 days in jail. A second co-defendant, Stephanie Boehning, 24, is awaiting trial.

Sayers recruited Boehning to lure a 53-year-old victim to the 100 block of Southeast Columbia Way, where McCarter was waiting for them, according to a probable cause affidavit. McCarter was accused of repeatedly hitting the victim in the head with a bicycle lock while demanding money.

The victim escaped after stabbing McCarter in the left rib cage, court records said.

McCarter told police that Sayers said the victim was “trying to buy girls,” so he decided to rob him, the affidavit said.

Judge Scott Collier agreed to follow the attorneys’ sentencing recommendation and ordered that McCarter serve 30¾ months. He was given credit for 48 days in custody.
