SEATTLE — When Rob Lucier’s terrier went missing last month, he did what many pet owners in the same situation do: put photos on Facebook, hung fliers, posted a story in a neighborhood blog and asked police for help.
Strangers eventually helped track the 1 1/2 -year-old cairn terrier to a homeless woman, who is believed to have dyed the dog black.
On Sept. 15, Lucier’s mother-in-law tied Waffles up outside a market and went inside, he said. When she returned, Waffles was missing. Surveillance images showed someone taking the dog but couldn’t identify the person. Lucier then began receiving calls from people who saw the dog with a homeless woman. He later received a call from a woman who said she had seen his dog in a Seattle Center Armory restroom, where the homeless woman was “washing paint off the dog.”
Lucier’s mother-in-law then called to say that she found the homeless woman and called police.
