Letter: No place for Sharia law in Oval Office

I thoroughly enjoyed reading Our Readers Views in the Sept. 24 issue. Upon finishing, I noticed the opinion column: “When can we finally oust all of the ignoramuses?” by Kathleen Parker, who writes for The Washington Post. Just how ignorant can a columnist be?

Her comments about Ben Carson, who is running for president, are so misguided. Carson was quoted as saying that he could only support a Muslim running for president if said person would denounce Sharia law, upon which Parker responded that faith or no faith should have no bearing on a person’s ability to run for the presidency. Is this woman a complete imbecile? Does she want to set women’s rights back to the Stone Age?

Extremists use Sharia law to allow the rape and mutilation of women for no more reason than the male may believe that she may have been unfaithful; children can be raped or killed with no repercussions. Is this the kind of religion that we want in the person running this country? I think not. We have evolved, hopefully, beyond the barbarism of ages past.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
