SUNNYSIDE — A Sunnyside woman who was driving east in the westbound lanes of Interstate 82 was killed early this morning when her car hit another vehicle head-on, the Washington State Patrol said.

Gloria Bautista, 34, was pronounced dead at the scene. It was unknown whether she was wearing a seat belt.

The State Patrol said her 2002 Pontiac Grand Am collided with a westbound Ford Expedition driven by Juan Roque Maldonado, 38, of Yakima. Maldonado, who was wearing a seat belt, was taken to Sunnyside Community Hospital with undisclosed injuries.

The crash occurred at 3:30 a.m., 4 miles west of Sunnyside.

The patrol said it was unknown whether intoxicants were involved.

The collision closed the westbound lanes for about four hours and traffic was rerouted at the Outlook exit, the state Department of Transportation said.
