Shelby Meader, 23, was named a semi-finalist at the Miss Washington USA 2016 pageant in Burien on Oct. 18. It was the fourth year Meader competed in the state pageant, and the fourth time she earned high enough scores on the first day of competition to advance to the next round.

There were 16 semi-finalists chosen from among the 34 competitors.

Meader, a Camas High School graduate, works as an assistant branch manager at iQ Credit Union and is enrolled in an MBA program at Washington State University. She also volunteers with the Humane Society, and her platform was to end the euthanizing of animals due to lack of space in shelters. Meader’s dream of representing the state isn’t over yet.

“I will definitely run again,” she wrote in an email. “I learned a lot more about myself this year, and overall it was a great experience. I’ll be starting prepping again for next year in January. I’ll be flying to New York to work with coaches over there.”

The winner of the pageant was Stormy Keffeler of Monroe.
