Over the last several months, companies like Tesoro, an oil company, and Savage, a transportation company, changed their name as a group locally to Vancouver Energy. Ambre Energy North America, a coal company, changed its name to Lighthouse Resources, Inc. Both changes imply a better-sounding energy name as a cover for their real purposes. Tesoro and Savage are attempting to build the largest ship-to-rail oil terminal in the U.S. in Vancouver. Ambre Energy is pursuing two major coal export terminals in Oregon and Washington.
Even Monsanto suggested a new name in its proposal for a merger with Syngenta. Monsanto makes a pesticide for crops and weeds, including milkweed that bees rely on for sustaining their lives. It is killing thousands of bees in the process. So, Monsanto must think a name change will stop the pressure from environmental groups seeking to eliminate one of their chemical products.
A name change is nothing more than a cover.
