Sounders fans break league attendance record in Seattle

SEATTLE — The Seattle Sounders broke their own Major League Soccer attendance record on Sunday.

The match with Real Salt Lake was played in front of 55,435 fans at CenturyLink Field. That breaks the previous league attendance record of 44,038, also set by the Sounders in 2013.

In 2015, Seattle drew 752,192 fans for 17 games, an average of 44,245. The team also holds the MLS record for most consecutive stadium sellouts, at 124 consecutive matches.

The Sounders qualified for its seventh straight playoffs by defeating Salt Lake 3-1 on Sunday.
