ALOHA, Ore. — Authorities say a cab driver accidentally accelerated into a convenience store in Aloha, slamming the vehicle entirely inside the store and crashing into a back counter.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office says the crash early Wednesday morning happened in the confusion after a passenger tried to pay his fare with a small amount of cash and some marijuana.

The cab driver told authorities he’d driven the passenger from downtown Portland. After the man offered cash and drugs, he told the driver to take him somewhere else and threatened harm.

Moments later, the passenger fled and the driver called police. In the ensuing confusion, the driver drove into the store. Police say he made no apparent attempt to brake.

Officers and a police dog were unable to locate the passenger.
