Letter: Separate good guys from bad

By Gerry Jarvis, Vancouver

A very wise man (probably a National Rifle Association member) said the only way to stop a bad guy with a gun was a good guy with a gun. Polls indicate that the majority of people think that everyone should openly carry a gun, including teachers, nurses, crossing guards, grocery clerks, etc.

To identify the “good guys,” when someone buys, borrows, steals, or finds a gun he/she should say if he/she is a “good guy.” If he is, he should be given a “Good Guy” badge that he would wear at all times.

When people are out on the street, in a school, in a church, in a restaurant, or wherever, if someone comes with a gun and no “Good Guy” badge then the good guy with the badge would immediately shoot him because, of course, he would be a bad guy.

If a gang of kids drove down the street with no badges they would be bad guys.

If a 5-year-old was playing with dad’s gun when he had been told that was “bad” he would be a bad guy.

If someone in distress pounded on your door in the middle of the night — bad guy.

Good guys would not go to jail for taking out a bad guy. Using this principle, soon the good guys will have killed all the bad guys. The gun violence problem would be solved.
