A section of state Highway 14 in the Columbia River Gorge near White Salmon will close Thursday for resurfacing work, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation.

Crews will close both directions of the highway between the Hood River Bridge and the state Highway 141 alternate from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday. Drivers will be diverted onto Highway 141 and the Highway 141 alternate, according to WSDOT.

In addition, Highway 14 will be reduced to a single lane of alternating traffic between the Highway 141 alternate and Spring Creek Hatchery Road from 2 to 7 p.m. Thursday. Highway 14 will also be reduced to a single lane between Drano Lake and Cook-Underwood Road from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, according to WSDOT.

All of the closures will allow workers to resurface pavement, part of a $5.2 million effort to repair more than 40 miles of Highway 14. The project is scheduled for completion later this month.
