SPOKANE — Idaho State Police say they believe a wrong-way driver who crashed into a Washington family, killing a man and two young children, had been drinking before the collision.

KXLY-TV reports that troopers say they will recommend 27-year-old Ryan Turner face three counts of vehicular manslaughter for the Saturday crash.

Police say 33-year-old Mathew-Michael Baroni and two children who share his last name — 8-year-old Madilyn and 6-year-old Molly — died on the scene. The three were not wearing seatbelts.

The crash took place just south of Athol in Kootenai County. Baroni was driving southbound on U.S. Highway 95 when he crashed into a Turner’s pickup truck traveling northbound in the southbound lane.

Officials say they are waiting for the results of Turner’s blood test to determine if he had alcohol in his system.
