Letter: Volunteers can help keep trails safe

Clark County has beautiful paved walking trails, but many residents are nervous to walk alone on them and so they are greatly underused.

Yakima developed a solution to that on their river trail. Volunteer senior citizens ride back and forth on golf carts, armed with cellphones, trail maps, free water bottles, first-aid kits and friendly smiles. It’s a win-win — walkers and cyclists feel safer, and the patrollers feel useful after retirement as they give back to their community.

Let’s do it here, too.
