Save the Date: Heritage Day to celebrate history of Camas, Washougal

Discover a little bit of local Camas and Washougal history with some ice cream during Heritage Day. Two Rivers Heritage Museum will host a community ice cream social, crafts and fall plant sale from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. today at the museum, 1 Durgan St., Washougal. The Camas-Washougal Fire Department will have a fire truck on display, and the Flying A’s Car Club will showcase its vintage Model As. Visitors are invited to watch blacksmith demonstrations, a wood carver, and working engines and motors, while Another Shade of Bluegrass performs. Admission is free. 360-835-8742 or www.2rhm.com

Botany Bay Farm will host a harvest field day and guided farm tours from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. today, along with music, workshops and games. Visitors can meet the pigs, rabbits, cows and chickens being raised on the farm at 13513 N.E. 132nd Ave., Brush Prairie. Don’t miss the downtown block party — CouvFest NW — which will bring together local bands in this all-ages showcase at Ninth and Main streets in Vancouver. The music festival runs from noon to 10 p.m. today and noon to 7 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free. www.couvfest.com

The 30 member ensemble Chor Anno will perform its fall concert, “A More Perfect Union,” at 7 p.m. Sept. 26 at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 426 E. Fourth Plain Blvd., Vancouver. The concert includes “The Field,” composed by John Muehleisen of Seattle, a piece commissioned by the Harvard Glee Club for the sesquicentennial of the Civil War. The Clark County Historical Museum is getting a little spooky this October. It starts with the First Thursday lecture titled “Weird and Haunted Southwest Washington,” with historian and paranormal investigator Jeff Davis at 7 p.m. Oct. 1 at the historical museum, 1511 Main St., Vancouver. The Haunted Walking Tours begin at 7 and 9 p.m. every Friday and Saturday in October, except on Halloween. Aimed at ages 13 and older, the historic tour gives a spooky twist on downtown Vancouver history. Participants are asked to bring a flashlight. The tours are $10. A haunting story will also take place at the Battle Ground Community Library, 1207 S.E. Eighth Way. Award-winning storyteller Christopher Leebrick will share Edgar Allan Poe’s “The Tell-Tale Heart,” along with other spooky tales from around the world, starting at 7 p.m. Oct. 5. Renowned violinist Anne Akiko Meyers will perform with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra for its first fall concert. She will perform “Serenade for Violin and Orchestra” by Leonard Bernstein, a piece which draws inspiration from Greek philosopher Plato’s work on love. In conjunction, the public radio program “Philosophy Talk,” hosted by Ken Taylor and John Perry, will record a live program in front of an audience at 4:30 p.m. Oct. 4. The concerts begin at 3 p.m. Oct. 3 and 7 p.m. Oct. 4 at the Skyview Concert Hall, 1300 N.W. 139th St., Vancouver. Tickets to the radio show taping are $15, or $10 if added to a separately purchased concert ticket.
