Prep highlights: Oster, Camas win at Chieftain Invite golf tournament

Individual medalist Hailey Oster led Camas to victory Thursday at the Chieftain Invite golf tournament.

Oster shot a 6-over par 78 in wet and cold conditions at Lewis River Golf Court, east of Woodland.

Washougal’s Kallie Sakamoto also shot 78, but Oster won the tiebreaker by shooting a better score on the No. 1 handicap hole.

Oster led four Camas golfers in the top 10 of the tournament, which included 68 golfers from 14 local schools.

Connie Wang shot 84 to place fifth. Emma Cox was a shot behind in sixth and Abby Jiang shot 88 to place eighth.

Union was second in the team race, 12 strokes behind Camas’ score of 336. Taylor Hartney and Reilly Whitlock each shot 81 to tie for third, while Titan teammate Julieta Rendon shot 87 to place seventh.

Stars of the day

• Humberto Garcia, Fort Vancouver soccer, scored the go-ahead goal with 20 minutes to play in the second half, and assisted on Fort’s first-half goal in a 2-1 win over Columbia River.

• Jordan Vazquez, La Center soccer, scored two goals in a 3-1 win over Seton Catholic.

• Christian Thyron, Prairie boys soccer, scored a game-tying goal in the second half as Prairie tied Kelso 1-1.

• Jasmine Nesbitt, King’s Way tennis, scored a 6-0, 6-0 win in the No. 1 singles match in a win over Three Rivers Christian.
