I appreciate The Columbian’s April 10 editorial “Wolfe in the spotlight,” which elucidates in sharp relief the opportunity that was before Port of Vancouver Commissioner Brian Wolfe.
From the outset this proposed oil terminal has upset the local community as well as every community along the oil cars’ rail routes. Hundreds of thousands have written and spoken against it. This adventure by Tesoro-Savage/Vancouver Energy is an unwelcome and costly intrusion into the affairs of our state.
Commissioner Wolfe should have balanced grave concerns for the environment (air, water, land and climate change), our children’s futures, community safety, and the timely delivery of emergency services against any other more trivial considerations. Since the port commission did not take any opportunity to terminate the lease, we will all endure more years of agony and distraction as the proposal winds its way through the agencies and, perhaps eventually, the courts.
