OREGON CITY, Ore. — Clackamas County authorities say a motorist involved in a high-speed chase was taken to a hospital’s intensive care unit after going into convulsions during his arrest.

Sheriff’s Sgt. Brian Jensen says the incident began Thursday at 4:40 a.m. when deputies tried to stop a driver who had switched plates on a vehicle. He says the chase lasted about 12 minutes before the suspect decided to give up.

A short time later, the 35-year-old Oregon City man began sweating profusely and going into convulsions. Jensen says it’s believed the man ingested drugs before his arrest.

Medics took the man to the hospital, where he was placed in the ICU.

He faces charges of reckless driving, meth possession, attempt to elude an officer and a felony warrant for parole violation.
