PASCO — CRF Frozen Foods, a Pasco vegetable-processing plant, has recalled some frozen vegetables sold by Costco and other retailers after testing discovered the presence of an illness-causing bacteria.

State health officials in Ohio found listeria in a CRF-produced package of vegetables, the Food and Drug Administration said Saturday. No illnesses have been reported.

Listeria can cause fever and muscle aches, and is potentially fatal in children and people with weakened immune systems, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The recall covers 15 frozen vegetable packages, primarily peas and corn, that were shipped to Costco, as well as to Meijer, a Michigan retailer, and BJ’s, a wholesale club with locations along the East Coast and in Ohio.

The vegetables, distributed between September and March, were shipped to stores in as many as 35 states and four Canadian provinces.

The FDA’s website has details of the product codes included in the recall.
