Prep highlights: King’s Way Christian takes advantage of miscues to win

The King’s Way Christian baseball team got a little help as the Knights moved closer to the Trico League title.

The Knights scored runs in the seventh and eighth innings — both on errors — to rally past Castle Rock 6-5 on Friday.

The win left King’s Way Christian (10-2 Trico) one game ahead of second-place La Center (9-3). The Knights finish league play with there games next week against Stevenson. King’s Way can seal the top seed to district with two wins against the Bulldogs.

Trailing 5-4 in the bottom of seventh, Matt Garrison opened the bottom of the seventh by reaching on a three-base error by Castle Rock, then scored on another Rocket error to make it 5-5.

In the eighth, Luke Oja led off with a single. Sam Lauderdale came in to run for Oja, and advanced to second on a Castle Rock error.

Lauderdale took third on a fielder’s choice before scoring on another Rocket error for the win.

Stars of the day

• Lilly Casey and Jessi Weaver, La Center softball. Each went 4-4 with a double in a 15-0 win over Kalama. They combined to score six runs and knock in five.

• Brock Castleberry, La Center baseball, went 2 for 2 with 3 RBI in the Wildcats’ 7-6 win over Kalama that clinches at least second place in the Trico League.

• Calli Martin, Ridgefield softball, went 3 for 4 with a run and four RBI as the Spudders beat Washougal 9-4.

• Halee Vinyard, Union softball, went 3 for 4 with run and RBI as the Titans held off Mountain View 7-6.

• Kennedy Ferguson, Camas softball, stuck out 13 with no walks in five-hit shutout as Camas beat Evergreen 8-0.

• Parker Boyd, Battle Ground softball, struck out 15 with no walks in a three-hit shutout as the Tigers beat Skyview.

• Johnny Lee, Cole Susee, Jimmy Borzone, Union baseball, combined on four-hit shutout as the Titans beat Skyview 4-0.

• Sterling Greer, Columbia River baseball, had double RBI, three walks and scored the game-winning run on wild pitch in bottom of the seventh in a 10-9 win over Tumwater.

• Tiarra Ringold, Columbia River girls track and field, won the long jump and triple jump at the Eldon Kellar Invitational in Hillsboro, Ore.
