La Grande, Ore. — One woman is safe with her family after being found by the Oregon State Police in Baker County on Friday.

About 1 p.m. Friday, OSP Troopers from the Baker City work site and the Baker County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of an overdue motorist lost on a secondary road in Baker County.

According to a press release from OSP, the preliminary investigation revealed a newer Toyota Camry, operated by Masha France, 25, of Fort Lewis, was traveling eastbound on Interstate 84 and was on her way to Tennessee when she drove off the interstate onto a secondary mountain road.

A family member called OSP reporting France was overdue and needing assistance. France had called her family and stated that she was lost and her vehicle was stuck and if she moved the car she felt she may go over a cliff. She said she did not know her exact location and thought she was about 20 miles from Baker City with very limited cell coverage.

Troopers contacted her family in Washington and obtained France’s phone number and additional information attempting to determine how far off the interstate she had driven. After several conversations and some limited text messages from France, troopers determined where she was most likely located.

After two hours of searching, France and her vehicle were located about three miles up Lookout Mountain Road. OSP Troopers were able to relocate France to the interstate without injury. OSP was assisted by the Baker County Sheriff’s Office.
