Letter: U.S. produces second-stringers

I felt columnist Leonard Pitts’ pain when reading his Aug. 22 column “Maintaining perpetual Trump outrage is exhausting.” And I can help by offering one word (in brackets) to add to the second sentence: “I am tired of (trashing) Donald Trump.”

Of course he is. The Donald is a self-stuffing pinata. Every morning, no matter the bashing he just received, there he is again, rejuvenated, stuffed until the seams are straining, ready to be whacked, to spill crazy all over the landscape. How can you resist?

If Pitts could just take a deep breath, and look a couple of feet beyond this easy target, what do we see?

Why it’s the Hillary pi?ata! Just as juicy and tempting. Stuffed with illegal, self-serving emails, “experience” which is actually a string of failures (Honduras, Ukraine, Libya, Syria, HillaryCare, ’03 Iraq vote — did I miss anything?), lies, health issues and, being Hillary Clinton, more lies.

What an opportunity to step away from the ongoing exposition of clueless irrelevance that Pitts and the establishment liberal commentators exhibit with their desperate “sheep-dogging” for Clinton and start to address the real issue: how did America, at this point of crisis, elevate these two second-stringers to be our presidential contenders? Does America just not produce Jeffersons and Lincolns anymore?
