Port of Vancouver officials gave a formal welcome Tuesday to the MS Federal Iris, a 656-foot bulk carrier on its maiden voyage.

The Federal Iris, with a crew of 20, called on Vancouver to load copper concentrate before sailing to Portland to load soda ash and Vancouver, B.C., where it will load a cargo of wheat. The vessel will then call on ports in China and Indonesia.

The Federal Iris was launched Aug. 9 in Japan and is operated by Federal Navigation of Montreal, Canada. The ship’s owner is Forward Gloria Navigation.
