Olympia – The American Civil Liberties Union of Washington state said that just after it sued Grays Harbor County for records related to juvenile detention, the county agreed to produce 2,300 pages.
The organization began filing public records requests in May, following reports that a 15-year-old boy was placed in solitary confinement for eight days. It sued the county in Thurston County Superior Court this week because officials still hadn’t produced the records.
ACLU spokesman Doug Honig said Wednesday that Grays Harbor County quickly sent word it would turn over responsive documents. The county did not immediately return an email seeking comment.
The ACLU said it’s investigating possible constitutional violations at the juvenile detention facility. Two officials were docked pay after the treatment of the 15-year-old came to light.
