ROSEBURG, Ore. — While much of Oregon got hit with snow and ice this week, some communities dealt with downpours.
The Daily Courier reports that Grants Pass got 3.2 inches of rain Thursday, shattering the old record for Dec. 15 — 2.5 inches back in 1982. The two-day total topped 4 inches.
Many smaller streams and creeks jumped their banks. The Rogue and Applegate rivers were running high, but neither was expected to hit flood stage.
In Roseburg, the News-Review reports that rising water from the South Umpqua River washed away the belongings of a homeless woman who was sleeping under a bridge. Two other homeless people had to be rescued Thursday after they became stranded on an island near the river’s shoreline in Deer Creek Park.
