Letter: Support Ridgefield school bond

I urge the people of Ridgefield to support our children — our future. This bond will reduce overcrowding by adding a new fifth- through eighth-grade campus and additional classrooms at the high school. It will also provide modern classrooms including space for science, technology, engineering and mathematics, pre-kindergarten programs, and adult education.

As a collective society, we have pushed for safety of our students, as we have seen horrific tragedies play out in schools. This bond will enhance security on both elementary campuses.

The benefits are tremendous — reduce overcrowding in all schools, which will keep class sizes small and replace less-secure portables with permanent classrooms. It will keep our students, teachers, and volunteers safe by improving security.

These improvements will also ensure students have access to modern classes and technology that reflect best practices in education. It also allows Ridgefield to take advantage of millions of dollars of funding from the state and city. The bond does come with a price, but at 77 cents per assessed thousand dollars of value, this still keeps Ridgefield taxes as one of the lowest in Clark County.
