Letter: Venezuela governs as a republic

Jay Ambrose wrote in his Jan. 31 column “GOP must rid itself of Trump, Cruz” that Venezuela has a socialist government, and it doesn’t work well.

Venezuela actually has a federal republic with five branches of government. Executive power is exercised by the elected president, and legislative power is vested in its National Assembly.

He cited the country as having a socialist system. Doesn’t sound like it.

If he wanted to mention socialist systems, he should have mentioned the Scandinavian countries, which seem to be doing quite well. It is interesting how easy it is, when you have a published column, to report misinformation.
