HOOD RIVER, Ore. — Construction is under way on a new 1.3-mile section of the Historic Columbia River Highway State Trail from Lindsey Creek to the Starvation Creek trailhead on the Oregon side of the Columbia Gorge.

The new section of trail is expected to open in late September.

The work is requiring a single lane closure on weeknights in the right lane of Interstate 84 eastbound from mileposts 53 to 55 near Starvation Creek trailhead.

The right lane will be closed from 6 a.m. Mondays through 6 p.m. Thursdays starting now and continuing through June 23. No work will take place during Memorial Day weekend.

Three U.S. Forest Service hiking trails are closed from 6 a.m. Mondays through 6 p.m. Fridays through Aug. 31. Those include Mount Defiance No. 413, Starvation Ridge No. 414 and Starvation Ridge Cutoff No. 414A.

The trails will be open for President’s Bay, Memorial Day, Fourth of July and Labor Day from 6 p.m. Fridays through 6 a.m. Tuesdays.

Sixty-three miles of the original 73 miles of the Historic Highway are open for travel either by motor vehicle, foot or bicycle.

More information about the project can be found at http://flh.fhwa.dot.gov/projects/or/lindsey-starvation.
