A married couple’s quarrel in front of a Lakewood middle school got out of hand when the man allegedly stabbed his wife in the head with scissors.

Pierce County prosecutors charged the 49-year-old husband with first-degree assault. He pleaded not guilty Monday and was ordered held in lieu of $250,000 bail.

Charging papers gave this account of the incident Friday: The couple went to pick up their daughter at Woodbrook Middle School and began arguing about a change in their plans.

Witnesses said they saw the husband grab a pair of scissors out of their van and repeatedly stab his wife. Two people intervened and held the man down while others called 911.

Officers arrested the man.

“En route to the jail, the defendant cried and kept saying he was sorry,” according to the court records.

The wife was taken to Madigan Army Medical Center, where she was treated for eight stab wounds and significant head injuries.
