Volunteer opportunities

Volunteer Connections provides opportunities through the Human Services Council. For information on the following and other opportunities, call 360-735-3683.

• American Red Cross of Southwest Washington is looking for blood drive ambassadors, canteen assistants and blood couriers.

• Battle Ground Health Care needs clinic volunteers: coders, dental assistants, dental clinic managers, dental hygienists, dental receptionists, dentists, medical receptionists, phlebotomists and registered nurses.

• City of Vancouver Water Resources Education Center seeks volunteers to weed, plant and help make the garden presentable.

• Hands of Favor offers free haircuts and salon services to people in need. Barbers and stylists are needed.

• Human Services Council is looking for help researching, writing and submitting grant applications on behalf of the Volunteer Center and its programs.

• Open House Ministries seeks bicycle repair and service help, computer technicians, thrift store and coffee shop assistants, tutors and website builders.

Clark County Extension seeks participants in the Master Food Preservers program to be trained as volunteer master food preservers. Trained volunteers assist at community events and classes throughout the county, answer the Food Safety helpline and test gauges on pressure canners. The majority of events occur between June and September, usually on weekends. Fifty hours of training will be offered over seven weeks, from 8:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Fridays, April 8 to May 20. Two orientation sessions are set for 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 25 and 5:30 to 7 p.m. March 30 at the 78th Street Heritage Farm, 1919 N.E. 78th St., Vancouver.

The Vancouver Farmers Market seeks volunteers for the downtown and Columbia Tech Center markets for the 2016 season, which begins March 19. Volunteers will collect food donations to assist the Clark County Food Bank in feeding hungry families and with community outreach.
