Letter: Be clear on path of your donation

As a veteran active in veteran’s affairs, functions and organizations, may I please take this opportunity to bring to all’s attention the falsely motivated benefactors and/or charity groups dedicated to veterans. As an officer in the Korean War Veterans Association, we have investigated many of the highly advertised groups and those that demand an abundance of exposure of these groups.

Where an advertised group may collect tremendous amounts of cash (tax free) to the extent of several hundreds of millions, their return to veterans in most cases are less than 3 percent, with the majority of funds utilized for advertising and lavish hotel parties as well as rooms. The wages and compensation to the staff members is excessive, if not extravagant.

And be assured, the veterans are in great appreciation of the response of our citizens for their generosity and caring. A great number of veterans need that support, as well as knowing the citizens of this country are willing and thoughtfully concerned.

We ask that any attempts of generosity to these groups be investigated and scrutinized for clarity, honesty and their mission. This would allow one to receive satisfaction that their funds are directed toward the veteran, rather than the pockets of unscrupulous opportunists.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
