SEASIDE, Ore. — People gathered with flags and flowers to remember an officer slain while on duty last week in Seaside, Oregon.

The memorial service was held Friday in Seaside for 39-year-old police Sgt. Jason Goodding, who joined the resort town’s police department in 2003.

Goodding was shot to death as he was serving a felony arrest warrant on the night of Feb. 5. The 55-year-old suspect, who was shot by another officer, also died.

Goodding is survived by his wife and two young girls. He graduated from Sherwood High School, and graduated from Portland State University. During his time with the department, he ran the drug team, worked as a detective sergeant and as a patrol sergeant.

Seaside is a town of about 6,500 people on the northern Oregon coast. It is about 80 miles west of Portland.
