Mathis triple-double helps lead Clark to win

Darrius Mathis had a triple-double with 15 points, 11 rebounds and 12 assists as the Clark College men’s basketball team beat Linn-Benton 91-72 on Saturday in an NWAC South region game.

Clark (21-5, 12-2 South) has clinched a postseason berth and has a two-game lead over Lane and Clackamas for the top seed in the region. The top two teams earn homecourt advantage for the regional playoff round.

There are two games remaining in the regular season.

Union High grad Micah Paulson led the Penguins in scoring with 17 points. Bryan Berg added 12 points and Devon Hawkins had 11.

Clark forced 20 turnovers and converted that into 18 points. (Click here for complete boxscore)

WOMEN: Clark 82, Linn-Benton 49 — The Penguins started strong and finished stronger in beating the Roadrunners.

Clark (17-9, 9-5) had a 28-12 lead after the first quarter and finished the game with a 23-9 fourth-quarter advantage.

Caylee Newsom had 20 points and seven rebounds for the Penguins, and Bryn Tennyson had a double-double with 15 points and 10 assists.

Clark sits in fourth place, one game behind Umpqua and Clackamas with two games to play. The top four make the postseason, the top two earn a home regional playoff game.
