Letter: Strict policy must be followed

Every 40 seconds, a child is abducted. Evergreen Public Schools has a policy that I think must be adopted by all schools where guidelines are set on who can pick up a child and rules that are to be followed at the time of pickup. This will ensure that the school environment remains calm for learning. All schools need this type of policy enacted in their school handbooks.

There are six registered sex offenders within a 1-mile radius of my sister’s school (located in the Evergreen district), and the city of Vancouver has more than 200. We must ensure that children have a safe environment where no predator can come onto school grounds and kidnap these young children. The community should be able to identify on the schools’ websites what the regulations are regarding the picking up and dropping off of a child. Such issues need to be clearly identifiable and be specific like the Evergreen district policy. Steps are needed to prevent children from being kidnapped. Write each district to encourage them to pass the strictest policy that will keep the students safe.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
