Save the Date: Make weekend a home run with base ball or Camas Days

It’s a throwback to the summer of 1867 with a bit of Vintage Base Ball. Cheer for the home teams as the Sherman Base Ball Club of Vancouver Barracks takes on the Occidental Base Ball Club of Vancouver. Costumed national park staff and volunteers will play according to 1867 rules, along with music from the Vancouver Community Concert Band and some fans of the era. The action begins at 6 p.m. today on the parade grounds of Fort Vancouver National Historic Site, 1101 Officers Row, Vancouver. The Grand Parade of Camas Days will begin at 11 a.m. today in downtown Camas along Northeast Fourth Avenue, then immediately followed by the splashy bathtub races at 1 p.m. There will also be arts and crafts, live music, food vendors and children’s activities from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., with the Toast of Camas microbrew street running from 5 to 11 p.m. for those 21 and older. Return on Sunday at noon for the annual Ducky Derby by the Camas-Washougal Rotary from the Third Avenue Bridge. Don’t miss the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra performing classic and familiar symphonic pieces during Thursday’s Six to Sunset Concert. The orchestra welcomes guest conductor Daniel Boico and members of OperaQuest Northwest to this celebration of summer. Battle Ground Rotary’s Tastes and Tunes will feature food trucks, wineries, breweries and artists, along with musicians performing throughout the day, including Meltdown, Echoes of Yasgurs, Drop Dead Red and Amber Sweeney. Proceeds will benefit the programs and groups that the Rotary Club supports. The event is noon to 8 p.m. July 30 at Alderbrook Park, 24414 N.E. Westerholm Road, Brush Prairie. The Aloha 5K Fun Run will take participants along the Columbia River, with live music at the turnaround. The fun run finish line will coincide with the start of the Hawaiian Festival. Race day registration will be from 6:30 to 7:30 a.m. July 30, with the race beginning at 8 a.m. from Esther Short Park, West Eighth and Columbia streets, Vancouver. Heisen House Vineyards hosts its seventh annual Lavender Festival with lavender-themed crafts, cooking tips, fresh lavender and dried lavender by the bunch from noon to 9 p.m. July 30. There will also be local art and garden products, games, food and live music on the hour with a headlining concert by Mojo Blasters from 6 to 9 p.m. at Heisen House Vineyards, 28005 N.E. 172nd Ave., Battle Ground. Popular Journey tribute band Stone in Love will perform at 6 p.m. July 31 at Three Brothers Vineyard and Winery, 2411 N.E. 244th St., Ridgefield. The Clark County Historical Museum will host an offsite discussion for its First Thursday lecture at 7 p.m. Aug. 4 at the Cedar Creek Grist Mill, 43907 N.E. Grist Mill Road, Woodland. The Clark County Fair is almost here, with the 148th edition running Aug. 5-14 at the fairgrounds, 17402 N.E. Delfel Road, Ridgefield. This year will feature the return of the Dock Dogs, Monster Trucks, carnival rides, farm animals and FairCon, along with new highlights such as the Pig Racing Show, Cowboy Bootcamp and the Fun Science Experience. It all begins with the Free Pancake Breakfast from 8 to 11 a.m. Aug. 5, which includes early free entry to the fair. Vouchers are available from local Fred Meyer locations. The fair hours are 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. on opening day, then 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sundays through Thursdays. Admission is $11.25, $9.25 for seniors, $8.25 for ages 7 to 12 and free for ages 6 and younger. Parking is $6. Ride wristbands are $25 to $30. www.clarkcofair.com
