La Center — Jeffrey Mayolo won Washington state’s Trig-Star competition for high school students, sponsored by the Land Surveyors’ Association of Washington. The La Center High School junior beat out 800-plus other competitors, earning him $500 and a spot in the national competition later this summer. The competition measures students’ excellence in mathematics and builds awareness of land surveying and mapping as a profession. Mayolo is also an Eagle Scout and member of La Center’s wrestling and football teams. He was given his state award at an assembly on June 8.
