Letter: Laws can’t prevent violence

By Adam Jackson, Vancouver

Joanne Pinelli shows her ignorance of guns and gun laws in her June 22 letter “Vote against violence.” She states that anyone can buy a gun without thorough background checks. She may not know it, but this is an utter falsehood.

She asks, “What specific laws do you support to keep guns out of the hands of the seriously dangerous person?” My answer is the laws that are already on the books. I would like to pose a question to her — can you name one, just one, incidence of gun violence that new gun laws would have prevented?
