Discovery Middle School in Vancouver was briefly placed on a modified lockdown this morning after a suspicious man was seen in the area of the Kiggins Bowl, a district-owned sports stadium nearby.

There was no problem at the school, which is at 800 E. 40th St., near Interstate 5. The lockdown began at 9:17 a.m. and was lifted at 9:43 a.m. after a police search for the man concluded.

In a modified lockdown, the doors are locked, blinds are closed and students remain indoors, but classes go on as usual, said Amanda Richter, district spokeswoman.

It was in place as Vancouver police were attempting to locate the man to see who is he is, why he was on school district property, and if he needed any help, according to emergency radio traffic monitored at The Columbian.
