Letter: Merge efforts to beautify our parks

It is starting to look like spring here in Clark County, and many are thinking ahead to gatherings of family and friends at one of our many city and county parks. Unfortunately, all we may find are weeds and disorder resulting from the reduction of finances and personnel to maintain these treasures.

My husband and I recently took a trip to Australia, a country known for its deserts and general lack of water. However, everywhere we visited had beautiful, well-maintained parks, even small villages of 300 people. If Australia can put so much importance on their parks, why can’t we? It seems a shame that parks in general have been neglected to the point of being an eyesore in our community.

Clark County and Vancouver used to cooperate and share limited resources. Everything is separate now and mostly seems to be the worse for our park system. Our local politicians need to commit more resources to our parks and restore them to what they used to be so, once again, they become inviting places we can be proud of.
