Professor Carolyn Long of Washington State University Vancouver has received the inaugural Sam Reed Distinguished Professorship in Civic Education and Public Civility. The professorship honors Reed’s 45 years in public service, including 12 years as secretary of state.

Long, a political science professor, works in the field of civics and promoting civility and will use the professorship to expand her work in Southwest Washington to help opposing groups with collaborative problem-solving.

Long was recognized in a ceremony with Secretary of State Kim Wyman, former secretaries of state Sam Reed and Ralph Munro, and former WSU President Sam Smith.
