Letter: Transplant inspires hope

My heart is bursting with pride for the way Congresswoman Jaime Herrera Beutler, R-Camas, and her husband, Dan Beutler, have bravely and so publicly made medical history.

The medical first happened when the congresswoman gave birth to Abigail, a child with no kidneys and a condition known as Potter’s Sequence. After nearly three years on dialysis, Abigail now has a kidney of her own thanks to a generous donation by Dan.

By going public with their intensely private and personal story, Jaime and Dan serve as an inspiration to every one of the 4.5 million adults in this country who, like me, have been diagnosed with kidney disease, and might one day be on dialysis and in need of a kidney transplant.

Thank you, Jaime, Dan and Abigail.
