Two people were displaced after an early morning blaze in an east Vancouver home.

Crews from the Vancouver Fire Department responded to the fire, reported just before 6 a.m. Tuesday at 14006 N.E. 65th St. One person who was home at the time had evacuated.

Arriving firefighters saw smoke coming from the front door and doused the flames, which were coming from the kitchen, said Darrin Deming, Vancouver firefighter and agency spokesman.

Fire damage was mostly contained to the kitchen, but there was damage from smoke throughout the house, Deming said.

Firefighters rescued the residents’ pets, which included at least one dog and two ferrets, Deming said. Two residents were displaced, he said.

The Vancouver Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire.

Volunteers with the American Red Cross responded to assist the home’s residents, providing comfort kits and information on recovery services.
