GOLD BAR — A fire official said Saturday that rain and cooler weather were helping crews tackle two wildfires in east Snohomish County and near the town of Oso.
Joe Smillie, a spokesman with the Department of Natural Resources, said a fire burning in steep terrain on U.S. Forest Service land near Gold Bar has charred about 325 acres. That blaze was about 10 percent contained Saturday afternoon.
Residents of about a dozen homes were told to be set to leave, while residents in another 100 homes were told to be ready.
Smillie said a 130-acre wildfire burning near Oso, about 70 miles northeast of Seattle, was about 20 percent contained Saturday afternoon. That fire began Thursday in a logging area and is burning in steep terrain.
No structures have been destroyed and no injuries have been reported in either wildfire. The causes are still under investigation.
