PORT ORCHARD — Port Orchard officials have approved a fireworks ban for the city to be applied during dry conditions.

The Kitsap Sun reports that the City Council voted in favor of the provision Tuesday, allowing the ban on fireworks at times of “extreme fire danger.” State law requires the provision to be in place for at least one year before it can be used.

Kitsap County commissioners had approved a similar measure Monday that also includes the option to prohibit the sale of fireworks. The public will get a chance to comment on the ban before it gets implemented.

Bremerton, Poulsbo and Bainbridge Island also have an emergency fireworks ban provisions in place.
