Teen motorcyclist in critical condition after crash

The teenage motorcycle rider injured in a crash Friday night remains in critical condition at an area hospital.

Keaten Wells, 17, was riding a motorcycle on Northeast St. Johns Road when he struck a Jeep stopped to make a turn onto 65th Street, Vancouver Police Department spokeswoman Kim Kapp said.

Prior to the crash Wells was seen riding without using his hands, popping wheelies and weaving recklessly in and out of traffic on St. Johns Road, Kapp said.

He crashed into the Jeep and was ejected from the bike, she said. Wells was rushed to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center, where he remained in the intensive care unit in critical condition Monday.

Because the motorcyclist is considered the driver who caused the crash, the driver of the Jeep, Matthew Lefebvre, 22, of Ridgefield, was not cited in the investigation, Kapp said. The agency’s traffic detectives, however, are continuing the investigation, she added.
